How to clean the canvas bag
Preparation before cleaning the canvas bag
Before deciding to clean, check the condition of your bag and remove all items from it. If the material is not waterproof, then you have no reason to put wallets and keys in it. Once you have removed everything, make sure there are no tears and other damage. A large canvas bag is sturdy and reliable, no matter how many things you carry in it. However, if there are some tears, try to repair them before cleaning.
Another thing you should consider is the color of your bag. Some are colorfast, which means that the color will not fall off. This is especially important if you want to wash in a washing machine. If you want to check whether the bag does not fade, you can add water to a small bowl, and then immerse part of the bag in it. If the color starts to fall after 10 minutes, then you know not to wash it in the washing machine.
However, if the water remains clear and there is no residue on your paper towel when you twist the canvas bag, then it may be machine washable. However, you still have to be careful: only wash the bag with cold water to prevent the color from fading.
Read the label to see if it can be machine washed. If the manufacturer warns you not to do this, then you should wash by hand. In addition, when placed in hot water, some canvas bags will shrink, which can easily destroy them.
Remove light and heavy stains in the canvas bag
If the stain is relatively light, then you can use ordinary soap to wash it off before thoroughly washing it. Just apply a little bit on the stain and remove it with a damp sponge. You can use this method until the stain is completely removed. Then, wash the bag to maintain its uniform appearance.
Heavy oil stains, such as oil and ink, may cause you more trouble. Dry cleaning is not suitable for canvas bags, so you need to remove stains at home.
You can use a small amount of talcum powder or cornstarch to clean oil stains. For better results, it is always good to leave the powder on the stain for a few hours. After that, you can clean it thoroughly with mild soap.
If you spill ink on your canvas bag, there is no need to panic. You can use a mixture of toothpaste and baking soda to remove stains. Use a toothbrush to apply the mixture to the stain and scrub vigorously until the stain transfers.
But, don't use too much force. It destroys the material and causes the stain to spread. Repeat this process several times until the bag is clean.
